Alison’s April Reads
I fell in love with reading for the second time in my adult life in January of 2023. Some of my good friends invited me on a “Bookcation” where the agenda was simply to eat good food, enjoy each other’s company, and read books. Until that weekend away, I averaged 3 books a year, all of which were non-fiction (because college led me to believe that’s all an adult should really read). But tucked away in that cozy A-frame cabin I fell in love with stories, and I began devouring books (mostly rom-coms because apparently I’m a rebel).
This month I only completed three books, which I believe is the fewest I’ve read in a month since my reading re-birth. Life was hectic with two children with birthdays, Easter celebrations, and on two different occasions I was out of town for multiple nights! Now my TBR is 18 inches tall (not an exaggeration) and I’m praying for more opportunities to read this coming month - preferably in the beautiful sunshine that comes along with spring!
Practice Makes Perfect by Sarah Adams (4 stars). This is the second book in the When in Rome series, but silly me jumbled up the order and I read it third. I love Sarah Adams as an author - I think she’s great at developing characters and brings humor into her storylines. I won’t lie, this book definitely wasn’t my favorite of the ones I’ve read of this series, but I’m 100% going to read the fourth book when it’s released in January 2026.
Eleanor Olphiant is Fine by Gail Honeyman (1 stars). This was our April book club read and if I hadn’t been reading it for book club I would have DNF’d it within the first 30 pages. Overall I’d describe the book as boring, but I did find the last 50 pages or so to be interesting.
I’m Fine and Neither Are You by Camille Pagan (3 stars). The cover of this book caught my eye while perusing the aisles of the library and I’m really happy I picked it up! The main character is a mother of two kids and her commentary is relatable and hilarious, but the book has a deeper overall theme of redeeming marriage and falling back in love with your husband. Another fact I liked about this book was that the author is from Ann Arbor, Michigan
